The bitchiness in the rescue world.

What a surprise, there I was sitting in the pub with my new lady friend when a group of people she knew turned up. They started talking animals, (which to be honest was no surprise, as that's all she talks) they then started talking puppy farms. I nearly blushed, I felt they knew I wrote all these bogs, I felt they could see right through me, but no, it was just coincidence. They started slogging the best rescue I have been to so far. Saying they encourage farmers by helping them get rid of unwanted dogs and giving them room for more. They were so down on this rescue it shocked me. I tried to keep cool, pretend I really did not care, but I thought "what a shame they had not done as I had, visited and learnt"

When I went to that rescue they were unloading dogs from a van, the owner had tears in her eyes as she cuddled stinking dogs that she said had come from breeding kennels. I asked if she had always taken them, and she said yes since she had opened. She said she did it for the dogs, she had never lost sight that each dog is an individual, ands each life precious." I asked what would happen to them other wise, and she said that the breeders were showing compassion to them by giving them the second chance, before some would shoot drown or club to death. These breeders at least wanted the dogs to have a chance, but she assured me that if she did not take them the breeders would keep running, they would dispose of unwanted dogs other ways. She said she lived the relentless worrying life to save dogs, not use up her energy on botchier politics. At that point I asked no more. But here I was unable to defend a rescue as I did not want them to think I cared. My best weapon has been to listen.

These people seemed to take delight in being mean spreading rumours and doing nothing. If they had seen half of what I have this year I think they would shut up.

So what do you think, best leave puppy dogs to rot and take their chances? Or take them and give them a chance? I feel best not to criticize less you know what you’re talking about.

I wanted to tell them how a friend of my mums neighbours van broke down and I was hired for pocket money to take our neighbours van and pick up dogs to take to meet a dealer. I was about to go on a date, so I was not best pleased, but I thought I would like to see. So I crunched the gears and pulled of in this transit works van to the address. Just a house infact; on the back door proudly displayed, "breeders licence" I collected 5 dogs, not to go to rescue, but off to a dealer to sell to a breeder some place else..   They dripped with urine, had no bedding and no heat. But the licence issue date was just 2 days previous. I carried them to the van and put them in the empty water trough and barrels provided, and took them to the other farm. My eyes burnt with the smell, my cloths soaked up the smell, my lungs filled with the smell. Those poor dogs never made a sound and I delivered them to their fate. I went home cancelled the date I had and lay in the bath. Men are not supposed to cry but as I lay in the bath I wept.

It is easy to criticize and do nothing and easy to scream and shout, but I think the hardest job in the world is to sit back get trusted look and learn so a constructive line of action can be taken.
